Ryan Essmaker is a designer, photographer, and creative director who lives and works in New York City. He is a partner at creative studio Wayward Wild and cofounder of The Great Discontent (TGD), a magazine featuring interviews on beginnings, creativity, and risk, which he publishes with his partner-in-crime, Tina Essmaker.
Ryan previously founded and ran a small design shop in the state of Michigan for several years while he pursued music ventures on the side. In 2011, he and Tina started publishing The Great Discontent online, which opened the door to amazing opportunities and eventually led him to New York. There, Ryan worked as creative director and product designer at Crush & Lovely for two years while continuing to publish TGD, which has since grown to include a print counterpart and a short film series.
In January 2014, Ryan took the leap and left his day job to focus on The Great Discontent and other content-related projects via No Little Plans, his studio with Tina. Nine months later, in October 2014, Ryan and Tina joined forces with longtime friend and colleague, Brad Smith, forming Wayward Wild with an ambitious vision for the future of TGD and beyond.
